Bringing Quality Oral Health Care Directly to Our Community
Our Mobile Dental Clinic, opening this summer, will make dental care more accessible, equitable, and convenient for Kaʻala Elementary and Wahiawā Middle School, removing barriers such as transportation and limited access to dental providers.
Overview
Wahiawā Health is proud to introduce our Mobile Dental Clinic, an innovative program designed to expand access to high‑quality oral health services for children and families in the Wahiawā community. Under the leadership of Dr. Anthony Castro, Dental Director, our mobile clinic brings compassionate, culturally sensitive dental care directly to school campuses—removing common barriers such as transportation and limited access to dental providers.
The mobile clinic currently serves students at Kaʻala Elementary and Wahiawā Middle School. Our mission remains clear: to make dental care more accessible, equitable, and convenient for our community.

Insurance
If your child is insured, insurance will be billed. If there are co-payments, co-payments will be the responsibility of the parent or legal guardian. No student will be denied access to dental care due to inability to pay.
Wahiawā Health does not have the authority to waive co-payments required by your insurance. If you are unable to pay your co-pay or dental bill, please contact the School Based Health Care staff and we can further assist you.
If examination findings indicate the need for treatment or procedures beyond routine dental services, Wahiawā Health Center Dental Clinic will notify the parent/legal guardian regarding recommended treatment options. The patient may be referred to a dental specialist or other qualified provider for further evaluation and care when appropriate.
Our Mission
The Mobile Dental Clinic is part of Wahiawā Health’s broader vision to expand oral health services throughout Central Oʻahu. By meeting students where they are, we:
- Reduce barriers to care
- Support families and school communities
- Improve long‑term oral health outcomes
- Lay the groundwork for future mobile and standalone dental clinics
Under Dr. Castro’s leadership, this program will continue to grow into a fully developed dental health department dedicated to promoting wellness across our community.
Meet Dr. Castro
Dr. Anthony Castro is passionate about expanding access to compassionate dental care for Wahiawā families and their keiki, a passion rooted in his experiences growing up in a low‑income, underserved community. In his role as Dental Director for Wahiawā Health’s new Mobile Dental Clinic, he leads an innovative program designed to reduce barriers to care and support long‑term oral health for local keiki.
Dr. Castro oversees Alyssa Rodriguez, dental assistant, and together they provide convenient, high‑quality onsite dental care to students at Kaʻala Elementary and Wahiawā Middle School. The mobile clinic aims to reach hundreds of students who seldom see a dentist, addressing the lack of accessible school‑based dental services and helping build healthier futures across the community. He also supports Wahiawā schools through oral‑health presentations and hands‑on demonstrations that teach keiki the importance of preventive care and building healthy habits early.
His path into dentistry began with a passion for healthcare and service, leading him to earn his Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from UC Santa Barbara and his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from UC San Francisco. He completed advanced, hospital‑based training through a General Practice Residency at the Veterans Affairs Puget Sound in Seattle, preparing him for comprehensive, community‑oriented clinical care. Because he grew up without regular dental care and faced negative early dental experiences, he chose to enter the profession determined to create a kinder, more supportive oral‑health experience for every patient he serves.
With experience and appreciation across various roles in dentistry—from dental assisting to front‑office work to serving as a practicing clinician—Dr. Castro leads with a deeply team‑centered, compassionate, and patient‑focused philosophy. His commitment to culturally competent care reflects the values that shaped him and the communities that supported him.
Fluent in Spanish and proud of his Hispanic heritage, Dr. Castro enjoys reconnecting with family in Guatemala and El Salvador. Outside of work, he loves exploring Hawai’i with his wife, Samantha, a military dentist, and their dachshund, Peanut. He considers it a profound privilege to help build a healthier future for the keiki and families of Wahiawā through this transformative mobile dental program.
