“As a community health center, we are thrilled to open our first school-based health center at Ka’ala Elementary, a step we’ve been working towards for many months,” said Bev Harbin, Wahiawā Health chief executive officer. “The collaboration with school administration and teachers, parents and the health room staff has paid off to make this much needed health care option for students a reality. For many years we have provided annual school physicals, sports physicals and vaccination clinics to students within the Leilehua/Mililani/Waialua School Complex Area, and this new school-based health center increases access to quality health care where it is needed.”

Wahiawā Health also partners with school officials and Hawaii Keiki Nurses to provide school-based health programs on campus at Mililani High School and Waialua High and Intermediate School. Health care services include school and sports physicals and immunizations. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the CDC Community Preventive Task Force recommend school-based health centers as an evidence-based model that improves educational and health outcomes.
